The problem with adapters on Dslr Cameras is one, you lose the auto-focus feature of the lens and 2) most of them require that the light be metered outside the camera using an external meter. Not very handy

Using Pentax Lenses on a Nikon mount?
I’ve had a Nikon dSLR for some time now, and my father recently uncovered his old SLR and a set of five beautifully-preserved Pentax lenses. They’re all primes, and I’m crazy about my Nikon 50mm as it is. Is there a way to use Pentax lenses on a Nikon mount? If so, where might I be able to purchase an adapter or converter?
There are no [nikon] f mount to [pentax] k mount adapters to to the best of my knowledge. And even if there is, it will not be perfect.
You see to focus properly, a lens must be placed a very specific distance from the sensor or film. Within a fraction of a millimeter. Any farther or any closer and suddenly it won’t focus to the hyperfocal or up close, respectively. Placing the lens farther away also causes light fall off.
Nikon placed their lens mount slightly farther from the sensor/film already, and an adapter would add several additional millimeters that the Pentax lens wasn’t designed to handle.
Oh, you can get around this problem with special optics. But such adapters are very expensive, and reduce the optical quality significantly.
