how can i take a picture with a deep depth of field with a Canon Eos 40d
I have a canon eos 40d i just got, but can’t get sharp images and most of the time they have the bagkround blured. I basically need to take pictures at a weeding and i want the pictures to have most of the picture sharp rather than focused on a single object. They will b e during the day and i think i can deal with the ISO. The lense i have is the EFS 17-85mm IS

ok, put it in av mode (aperture priority) and use the scroll wheel next to the shutter button to get the aperture higher. f8 or f11 should do it in most cases. if you look in the viewfinder, there will be two numbers. the one on the left is your shutter speed. the one on the right is your aperture (fstop). you want the fstop above 8. the higher the number the better though. if you are indoors, you have to be careful that your shutter speed isn’t too low, or else you will get blurry pictures from hand shakes. the rule of thumb is that a 28mm lens should be shot at 1/30th of a second (or it should say 30 in the viewfinder). since you have the 17-85 is you could manage to take a picture around 1/40thth of a second if you turn on image stabilization. if you can’t get a decent shutter speed because it is too dark even after using is, press the “drive-iso” button on top of the camera by the lcd screen. you can then use the larger scroll wheel on the back to change the iso (light sensitivity), so that you can take faster pictures in low light. you can scroll it up to 1600, which will still look good. after that, you will be forced to use a flash, which is really annoying. i hope that helps. if you need any help, feel free to email me at zaorox99@yahoo.com. i have the canon 30d which is essentially the same. good luck! my last tip is to try Manual Focus, and never to trust the lcd screen on the back of the camera, because it is never big enough to really be sure if the sharpness is good. if there are minor sharpness adjustments that need to be made, photoshop can do a decent job. no offense, but you are a total goober. if you thought you could get away with just pushing a button, you should have gone p&s

Canon Ef-S 18-55 Mm Features Compensate For The Lack Of Other Special Features
Canon EF-S 18-55 mm provides its photographers with the image they have envisioned, even if it does not have the other features that other digital camera lenses have. This also means that the price associated with this particular lens is fairly cheap. However, its price has absolutely no effect on its quality as Canon EF-S 18-55 mm is still able to deliver images of the greatest quality.
However, a part where Canon EF-S 18-55 mm falls quite short is that it cannot shoot when in motion clearly. By “in motion”, the entity moving can either be the focus of the image or the photographer. Although this is not an impossible task for photographers, they would have to prepare a lot of things before they are close to clearly capturing a moving object with the use of Canon EF-S 18-55 mm. According to today’s most saleable digital camera photography guides, photographers will have to prepare a huge amount of lights, or a very bright flash in order to capture the object in a picture while it is moving.
It can be derived that Canon EF-S 18-55 mm is a very Great Deal since it is fairly priced yet still able to come up with high quality images. Its price becomes even cheaper when it is purchased with the whole Canon Digital SLR Kit.
Majority of this particular lens is made of plastic. The most obvious part of the lens, which is its mount, is also made of plastic. The only part of the lens that is not made of plastic, but is instead made of glass, is a certain side of the lens. And since around ninety-eight percent of the Canon EF-S 18-55 mm is plastic, it can be derived that it is relatively lightweight.
A drawback of usual lenses that are purchased is that the focusing ring is not as functional as it should be. Without a well-functioning focusing ring, the photographer will have immense difficulty trying to manually control the lens. It is also difficult to manipulate since the ring can only be seen when the lens is stretched to its maximum length.
Another thing that other digital camera lenses have that Canon EF-S 18-55 mm does not is the USM focusing motor. Without this feature, photographers will also experience difficulty when they are trying to focus their lenses manually for most of the time.
Still, this does not immediately mean that Canon EF-S 18-55 mm is not a worthy camera lens to purchase since it still has certain features that somehow compensate for the lack of others.
