  2. As much as I love Cracker Barrel when visiting other sates, such as Virginia, Massachusetts and Tennessee, I don’t think Ronkonkoma is the best place for it. I think of this restaurant/store in more of an open area, and not shoved into some strip mall as it probably would be. And the lines would be as long or longer to get in as it is to IHOP on Portion Road.

    • that’s good news! I cant wait, ive seen the advertisements on TV. I bet the food is great!!

  3. As a former employee I can say that Ronkonkoma is NOT the best place for a cracker barrel, but LONG ISLAND does need one, SUFFOLK COUNTY! do you hear me CRACKER BARREL? you’ll be thanking me after!! lol try Riverhead Tanger Outlets (for a more country feel!) or maybe Smithtown.. not too sure but it would be great! I wonder if they would have to raise the prices because Long Island is so ridiculous.. I can’t imagine keeping them so cheap. Come on over CB!

  4. ABOUT TIME Long Island gets a Cracker Barrel! But like others have said, Ronkonkoma is NOT the best place for it. Riverhead Tanger Outlets is honestly the best place I could say to put one.

  5. We definitely need one but I can think of many other locations that are better suited than Ronkonkoma. Like someone else stated, maybe near the outlets in Riverhead or maybe Commack. Definitely can’t picture Ronkonkoma.

  6. I think central long island (Ronkonkoma) is a good place for a cracker barrel, maybe where the otb used to be off portion road.

    • There is not enough room there for a Cracker Barrel. Have you seen the size of them? And definitely not enough parking.

  7. Ronkonkoma is a GREAT LOCATION on Long Island for a Cracker Barrel.

Put it somewhere near Red Lobster, Smokey Bones and Island 16 Movie Theatre… With a sign on the service road of the Long Island Expressway. Just like we see them everywhere else, off the highway.

Cracker Barrel has to get land cheap enough to keep their pricing low, yet support the high traffic.

So whether you are going to the Riverhead outlets or just want to come out from Nassau County with a more country feel.

Ext 59-62 may be the site location for our 1st Cracker Barrel on Long Island.

    Simply an educated guess.

    • I agree It would be a great spot.. and close enough for lunch.. I love Cracker Barrel..

    • I think Cracker Barrel will make a killing on Long Island. Ronkonkoma does need a facelift, some new shops, restaurants, etc. along Portion and Hawkins especially, but there is no area large enough to house this establishment in that area. There are so many vacant buildings that could be used along the LIE or even along Sunrise Highway within Suffolk County. Riverhead has too many good restaurants already, why not put a good one here.

  8. I love the Cracker Barrel shops…,yes its about time we have one here on Long Island…I think the Huntington or Greenlawn area would be perfect..It is an area of mixed ages and Im sure it would be welcomed with open arms…There are so few really good home style resturants here and most where the food is good are way overpriced…Please, please come and show us what real home style food is really like and the Gift shop would be a big Plus…Just perfect..love it…

  12. What’s wrong with Ronkonkoma?? As a resident of Ronkonkoma for 45 years I CAN say YES to a Cracker Barrel. It would bring more money and JOBS to OUR area! Smithtown and Riverhead have PLENTY of Restaurants. My kids could use a walk-to job at a nice establishment. BRING IT ON CB! We visit you on every trip off the island and would love to see you come here!

  13. Sure, a Cracker Barrel would be great !!! Need more choices on the L I E for people traveling !!!

  14. We need one that way I don’t have to drive to one out of state!

  15. Absutely. But Holtsville would be better. Like over at Island 16 off the LIE At exit 62. Store needs to be centrally located and off of a major roadway.

    Post a Reply
    • I agree that it should be off LIE, and like other CB ‘s, easy on and off major highway. Exit 62 has some open area as does other exits a little further east. Not at Tanger, it’ll be too congested, so possibly closer western area but definitely off LIE for visitors n truckers!!!

  16. Sure, why not add yet another run of the mill, heart attack causing, cholesterol filled restaurant to the many on Long Island? Homestyle food? I think not. It’s about as homestyle as Olive Garden is actual Italian and Red Lobster is real seafood. I was once at a Cracker Barrel while traveling and it is no more impressive then Dennys. The garbage in the country store is mass produced and is no way country. Let’s stop welcoming the over-rated chain restaurants to Long Island much like we welcome stores like Walmart and start supporting small mom and pop eateries and shops. Those are authentic, no CB.

    • Kudos!!! Well said and much agreed!!! The last thing our island needs is just another way to die earlier, get fatter, support factory farming and china producing the millions of useless plastic crap that will just end up filling our landfills…

  17. I would LOVE a Cracker Barrel here on Long Island. It is my favorite place to eat and to SHOP.

  18. Well, considering that during peak hours BLD is full up – or at least it was the last couple of times I tried to get in on a Sunday – it seems there would be room for a Cracker Barrel. Overall, I like local places better than chains, but I can see where a Cracker Barrel could attract people and be good for business in general if it were located near other stores.

  20. When I plan out of state vacations I make sure I stop at least once at a CB. I am a Long Islander at heart but not sure Long Island is the place for them. This is a residential community. “visitors” are on their way to their summer residents at the east end. There is only one way on & off LI. CB works well in areas with traffic from all over. However if you insist on having a CB on LI there should be two; one in Suffolk County & one in Nassau County, in the middle of each county not the east end. Both with easy on and off main highway. A place where people can stop on the way to and from where they are going.

  21. I’ve been to several Cracker Barrel’s along I-95 in the past 3 years traveling to Florida and have never had a problem. I agree with Kevin a Central Locatation off the LIE or Sunrise Highway would be better. Just think on the way to the Hamptons stopping at Cracker Barrel for a good reasonable priced meal. Lets hope this HAPPENS i’ll be one of there best customers.

  22. Bring it on! There is never enough of these establishments. Ronkonkoma is only getting more and more populated!

  27. The same thing happened with Denny’s in Centereach and Sonic on DPA a few years ago. You couldn’t get near those places when they first opened. Once the hype calms down, it’ll be fine, just like the others. Bring it on Cracker Barrel, and while you’re at it, let’s have a DQ in Suffolk!

  36. I personally would love a Cracker Barrel, that area in ronkonokma will be perfect when the new ronkonkoma hub is built (the project that Includeds restricting the whole area around the railroad station for businesses, a shuttle to the airport from the Train station and lower cost housing) Why would it be a bad thing if there is lines I don’t understand that, should we not open any more good restaurants or fast food places because people want to eat there. The fact lake grove turned away sonic I believe because of lines is retarded. A busy buisness no matter what it is puts money back into the community, it creates jobs we need and tax money we could use. The ignorance of people Behooves me.

  44. How about renovating the existing building
That used to house the Boulder Creek at
South Shore Mall in Bayshore ? Easily
accessible from both directions on Sunrise
Hwy. and a good draw for the Hamptons
and Fire Island crowd and an option to
    Fridays and Applebee’s.

  51. Sure, Cracker Barrell on Long Island. Put it next to the OTB Casinos they are thinking of building at the old movie theater off Exit 64. A little gambling and downhome country food to remember why you shouldn’t be gambling in the first place. LOL

  52. A Cracker Barrel on Long Island is great……. On the service road in Ronkonkoma works well….. Not in the Portion Rd area for traffic reasons. Too far out east like the outlets in Riverhead may be good for a second one for breakfast on the vineyard / farm stand trips but not as good as on the highway with all the volume that it gets in the Ronkonkoma area.
As far as the “Heart Attack” comment…..I agree the menu isn’t the BEST but there so many other restaurants with menus that are worse. I could just live on the Cheesy Hash Brown casserole

    Post a Reply
    • I agree, it needs to be placed right off of a highway for easy access to travelers who do not know the area. I think Sunrise or LIE would be perfect. It would be too confusing for people to try to find a cracker barrel on Portion or all the way up on Smithtown. There are not enough restaurants off the highways for travelers to stop and eat that are easy to stop at.

  54. Some concerns are site size for customer parking/physical store, and logistics of supporting that stores location. Big reason they’re not far off Interstates as to locations so their trucks can get there easier to restock stores.

  57. Cracker Barrel has been sued many times for racial discrimination. In all the restaurants they have all over the country they often promote from within, but had never promoted a black person beyond busboy at the time of the lawsuit. I don’t remember when I read about this but it was in the last 10 years. They put the Cracker in Cracker Barrel alright.

  58. Fabulous, can not wait, right now the nearst is on Rte 95 in Connecticutt. One of my favorite restaurants when traveling. Food is great at reasonable pricing and homey atmosphere. Can’t wait,

  59. The reason why these places do so well is that they are advertised tri-state and they arent even in NY. Its when you dont get to go somewhere all the time is when you end up liking the place. if you had it around all the time sooner or later you would get sick of it. If it had to be anywhere id say place it out east NOT near tanger it has to be in a place off the beaten path to give it that country feel it was meant to have.

These people are proffessionals and have many successful stores. i am sure they will choose their spot wisely. Way to go Cracker Barrel…..bring it on!!

  64. I grew up in Ronkonkoma and after attending school in RI and living in Miami I now own a home in Ronkonkoma where I am raising my daughter. am a little annoyed reading the comments “not Ronkonkoma” really? Ronkonkoma is a great place to live and if people need to stop trying to knock it down. The train station brings in thousands of commuters that would bring traffic into Cb. Kohls does fantastic business and that parking lot is always full. The perfect spot for CB could be right across from Kohls in that shopping center. They did an amazing job with Raynor Park and Cb would be a great place to take my daughter after playing. There are enough things going on in Riverhead, we need more successful businesses right in the heart of Ronnkoma!
