help with male fighting fish?
My male fighting fish is the only fish in the tank. I notice there is a gradual build up of bubbles on the surface of the water which don’t go away. One day i got the net and tried to scoop them up, and there was a white film on top of the water, and I’m thinking it is semen because what else could it be?
I think I should get rid of it but I’m not sure if that means just filtering the surface of the water, or cleaning all the water properly, because he produces the bubbles quite often and regularly.

It’s a bubble nest and the film isn’t sperm, but fish mucus. Your Betta is trying to attract a mate and the best way is for him to show that he’s a good provider and able to make good nests.
If you want to clear it out just use the net like you’re doing.

Help me fix my ammonia spike in new tank!?
HOw can I fix my gradual ammonia spike in my new tank. It’s been two weeks since set up….Ammonia was at 0 first few days, then 0.5…now at 1.0. I have three SMALL goldfish in a 55 gallon. My filter is a new biowheel rated for 90 gallons…I have been adding seachem stability, which supposedly allows you to add fish to a new tank without having to do a fishless cycle….apparently not! So, what do I do now? Can the goldfish tolerate the 1.0 nitrogen?! I am really worried. They all seem fine right now, but how can I resolve the situation. Thanks!
I do have a small5 gallon tank that has cycled water in it. It has been sitting for two weeks with no filtration. It is the old water that I had one small goldfish in for two weeks. Should I put two of the goldfish in there for a week or two while the water filters out? Or is it too late? I was going on the speciality fish shop advice when I used the biochem….and now I feel terrible!
do partial water changes as need to keep the ammonia and nitrite under 0.5ppm until the cycle finishes…?
the same thing you do to keep nitrate under 40ppm once the tank is cycled, do water changes!
do NOT put the goldifsh in the smaller tank. it is NOT, I repeat NOT, cycled. the water is not what “cycles” the FILTER cycles. the bacteria that breaks down the ammonia into nitrite and nitrite into nitrate lives on the FILTER not in the water. to live, the bacteria needs a source of ammonia, when it’s left without fish for too long it dies… the bacteria in the tank even if there were a filter would be long dead…. so you’d be having the same problem but worse because the tank is too small.
