Canon Eos 500D, Nikon D5000 Double Kit DSLR OR Nikon D90 Kit DSLR?
Which one is the best??? Any suggestions…
The Nikon D90 and the D5000 take pictures of the same quality because they share much of the internal components between them. The main difference between the two is that the D90 has the auto focus motor built into the body whereas the D5000 does not, and of course the D90 has higher component specs and features. The first two links are a great review of the D90 and D5000.
The best prices I could find for the D90 are from camerakings.com. $865.00 for the body only, $974.00 with Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED II Lens, $1,109.00 with Nikon 18-105mm VR Lens, and $1,137.00 with Nikon 18-55mm AF-S DX ED II & 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6 AF-S DX Lens.
The best prices I could find for the D5000 are from camerakings.com. $619.00 for the body only, $719.00 with Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED II Lens, $909.00 with Nikon with Nikon 18-55mm AF-S DX ED II & 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6 AF-S DX Lens and $1,393.00 with Nikon 18-105mm VR & 70-300 VR AF-S Lens.
Another option is to purchase the D90 body ($865.00) or D5000 body ($619.00) and purchase a third party lens like the Tamron Zoom Super Wide Angle 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Lens for $254.00 with $60.00 mail in rebate (one of the best deals available right now, unfortunately it does not have (VC) vibration compensation, but for the price you will not find a better deal on a lens like this) or a Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC LD Asph. AF Macro Lens for $549.99 with a $70.00 mail in rebate (this lens has VC and longer focal length but cost more than double the 18-200mm lens). The mail in rebates for the Tamron lenses are good until the end of December. All the prices I quoted include free shipping from camerakings.com.
One of the main reasons I prefer the Nikon’s over the Canon’s and Sony’s is that they have a separate auto focus assist lamp built into the body (on all models) whereas the Canon and Sony use their flash to perform this function. In certain situations, using the flash as a AF assist lamp can interfere with your shot. I am surprised that Canon and Sony still use flash for AF assist on their lower end models because on their upper end models they have separate AF assist lamps.
If you decide to use older 35mm film lenses, the thing you have to remember about using older 35mm lenses with the D90 or D5000 is that you have to multiply the focal lenght by 1.5 because the sensor is smaller than the original 35mm film. What this means is that your 18-200mm lens on the D90 would become a 27-300mm lens. Check out second link for a compatibility chart of Nikon Lenses and bodies.
You can’t really go wrong with either camera because they have the same picture quality. I know it is a hard choice but if you can afford it I’d go with the D90 instead. Take a look at the links below for more information and where to purchase.

Who am I? Beginning at age 11 years, in 1965 and initially taught my grandfather, photography played an important role throughout my life.
My digital photography began with the scans I made back in 1987 using “Scanner Thunder ‘, who turned his intonation printer scanner.
Recently I started taking pictures using digital cameras since 1997.
Nikon D90 is my 3-DSLR Nikon. It was preceded by my Nikon D70 and leaves a wonderful, Nikon D200.
Overall, I think the D90 outfit, which includes 18-105 and two that I added a Nikkor 70-300 lens of their employees, “perfect” camera equipment!

18-105mm lens is a camera takes off at about 95 percent of my shots with.
I use 70-300mm reach for when I need it, especially for small objects such as birds and other wildlife that are at a distance.
I was old and soft Lowepro bag is approximately 14 “x14″ x5 “, and camera lenses, like all my other personal belongings (keys, wallet, iPhone, etc.) all easily fit in IT and tossed over his shoulder, so I can ‘pull’ my camera and take a few seconds to see something worth photographing.

speed that I can turn the SR, and D90 shoot so low that it wants a film camera! There is almost no delay, so I have two shots to capture the quiet, without much effort.
I leave this setting with the following preset camera settings … RAW and JPEG, automatic focusing in on VR (image stabilization is amazing both my lenses!), Aperture priority (with the lens can usually see two F / 9 for picture quality Sharpest) and an amazing ISO Auto set a minimum shutter speed 125 and a maximum ISO 3200.
My wonderful images … focused, without image blur from hand hold the camera and well pereeksponirovannyh (Note that the use of RAW files in Aperture 3 allows me to setup and remove every influence of small chromatic aberration that appears when the lens is removed, it is 18 mm wide, value).
Nothing “perfect” yes, I admit that the D90 is so well built as my D200 and that it was the first DSLR is a possibility HAD video, video quality is not perfect.
However, when I think about the cost of better built D300s (twice more than the D90!), and I bought it for serious photography, not video, it ranks all the equipment in my book!
My ten years of experience taught me that Nikon also holds gears much better in the long run which is why it has a much higher resale value, too!
If you want the best DSLR camera with LCD (no one is better still!), glass Penta-prism viewfinder, which allows “see” what you shoot, even in low light conditions and the name brand, Nikon Does will keep it on all its resale value, it is hard to mistake D90 kit!
BTW I order the optional battery holder / side handle for it. Using two batteries that grip for portrait and add enough fun following D90 body so that all fingers of his right hand can reach the camera makes it a must-have addition.

Can I use a Zuiko 14-42 that came with my DSLR kit with a Zuiko 18-180mm together ?
I have an Olympus E-410, and do not have enough DSLR knowledge to figure out for myself if i can join these two lenses together. If this is possible, would i then get the equivalent of what would be referred to as “30X” zoom-range in a Point and Shoot ? (3×10). Best answer will be given for straight answers “Yes, you can combine them” / “No” and if the calculus i made regarding zoom rage is correct. Thanx.
Even if there is an adapter made for it, it would be unwise to combined them, it won’t work for that type. You can get a converter that will multiply it to 2x, 3x, or higher.
They are built to fit the camera only not with each other.
