I found a pill that’s labeled Diphenhydramine in my daughters pants pocket?

It labeled to be 25 mg, it’s a pink pill. what is this? could she have bought this from school? Is it dangerous?

It’s benadryl. It’s a common antihistamine used for allergies and also is sold as a sleep aid. It is NOT one of the drugs so often being sold behind the pharmacy counter (like Sudafed) because it is an ingredient for homemade street drugs.

I would question her and find out if she got it from a trusted friend, school nurse, a friend’s parents, or simply bought it herself…and educate her on how to take it properly when she needs it. But it’s most likely not a huge concern re: drug abuse or recreational use. If you don’t want her to take things without your permission/that you didn’t give her yourself…tell her so and let her friends’ parents know as well as the school nurse.

Editing now, reading other answers. I didn’t know that Benadryl was a recreational drug now. It seems like a boring choice to me, trying to imagine the appeal for even a desperate teenager. If it is a drug trend though, you need to give that some consideration.

On the other hand it IS cold and flu season, and it helps with sneezy snotty noses. If your daughter has been sick, her possession of it is very likely appropriate.

You would have to use your best judgment about this based on your relationship with your daughter, and what you know she is likely or not likely to do with such things.
