whats better a 10mp creative compact or a 6mp SLR?
I own a Fuji S9500 creative compact. its a great camera but restrictive compared to an SLR. It has a 9.6mp sensor. can anyone tell me what the equivalent SLR sensor would be. would I get the same quality from a 6mp SLR?
As they’ve said above me, it depends on what you consider to be better. Certain things about the image quality will be better with the SLR, but it will be up to you to compose carefully so that you can use most of those pixels in your final image — just like the old days. A major factor is the sensor size. In your Fuji, the sensor is larger than most compact cameras, but it’s still only about 1/8th the size of the sensor in any SLR. As a general rule, the bigger the sensor, the better the image quality.
One important plus in favor of the SLR is the fact that it is less restrictive than a fixed lens camera. The major manufacturers seem to offer three grades of lenses to cover most focal lengths, so you can choose according to your budget. In any given lens, you can find a $2-300 version, a $5-600 version and a $1,000 or more version.
I solved the problem of which to choose by eventually buying one of each. 
I use the SLR when I want “that” kind of picture, but I have a decent 10 MP “pocket” camera that will satisfy me when I don’t want to carry the SLR with me. I’m not being smug when I offer this as a solution, but I’m just saying that you can eventually own both. Eventually. Personally, if it’s a choice for which to buy now, I’d buy the SLR first. I own a couple of cameras to compare. One is a Canon SD900, which is probably not as versatile as your Fuji, but it’s a 10 MP sensor of approximately the same size. The other is a Nikon D50, which is a 6 MP SLR. I also have a 6 MP Nikon D70s to throw into the mix. It is important to take note of what lens is used on the sample images, as this makes a difference. Since you eventually will have this option with an SLR, you may as well include the lenses as part of the comparison.
I have a few samples for you to look at and you decide. First, just look at the overall picture. You’ll find that pixels don’t matter a whole lot, as long as the image isn’t cropped to death. Next, hit “All sizes” and then “Original” and you’ll see how the details do or do not hold up. Compare the rose petals, for instance, as there is a sample from the SD900 as well as the D70s.

It’s not exactly your question, but since I have the samples, let’s put them up here, too. This page compares Sensor Size. This is to compare 10 MP sensors in a digital SLR (DSLR) and a point and shoot (P&S) camera. I have tried to keep everything on equal footing with no unequal cropping of the original images. Both images were taken at the equivalent of 75 mm from about 1,000 feet away. View this FULL SIZE and scroll through the image to compare the resolution at various points of the images. To me, the P&S sensor practically looks like an impressionist painting compared to the DSLR sensor. This is also the “large size” P&S sensor, as most are using the smaller 1/2.5″ (5×4 mm) sensor.

Where in Dallas can I get my Digital SLR inside (sensor) cleaned?
I have a Nikon D50, and over the past four years, it’s started to get a few dust specks on the inside. Where can I take it to get it cleaned in the DFW area? I prefer somewhere near Irving/Dallas, but if you know of a good, reliable place that’s a bit cheaper, even if it’s a bit out of the way (Fort Worth, Grapevine, Plano, etc), please suggest it.
